If you're planning a big event, you want to make sure that you get the security done right. The last thing you want is a security breach. That's where careful planning comes into play. With the right security planning, you can ensure safety for your event guests. Here are some tips that will help you to plan for your event security needs. 

Hire a Professional Team

If you've been thinking about staffing your security detail with community volunteers, you might want to rethink that decision. Using volunteers for your security detail can set you up for some serious problems. Some of those problems include accidents, injuries, and liabilities. This is especially true if your security detail fails to protect your guests, or behaves in a less-than-professional manner. To avoid the risk of liability, and to ensure that your guests are well-protected, it's best that you hire a professional event security detail. 

Know Your Security Risks

If you're in the process of planning a community event, it's time to assess the security risks. If you don't know the risks, you can't provide adequate planning for the security. Some of the things you should consider when assessing the risks include the level of controversy, the notoriety of special guests, and the potential for outside agitators. Once you understand the risks associated with your event, your security team will be able to put together an appropriate plan of action. 

Keep Your Team Visible

If you want to reduce the risk of confrontation during your event, be sure to keep your security team as visible as possible. You may think it's better for your security team to keep a low profile, but that's not the case. In fact, attempting to have your security team keep a low profile may actually increase the risk for security breaches and conflict. Instead, have your security team maintain a visible presence during the event. That way, everyone knows you have a security team on-site, including those who might want to cause problems during your event. 

Utilize Onsite Checkpoints

Finally, if you're in the process of planning a community event, be sure to utilize onsite checkpoints. This is an especially important step for areas that might be a potential security risk. This includes areas such as entrances and exits and backstage access points. If you're going to be selling alcohol at your event, you should also include security checkpoints at the entrance to the beer garden.
